I’m Very Budiansyah, the operation manager at FBA. I’m the kind of guy who is good with numbers, create budgets and write proposals. In other words, anything to do with money. I’ve been at FBA for six years and I think this organisation is the best. I have made some great friends here, staff, volunteers and others.
After the tsunami I was really confused. Like other people, I spent a lot of time looking for neighbours and survivors, often with no avail. I feel that FBA has given Acehnese people a lot of opportunity for a better life, and me? FBA has made something of me out of nothing.

My name is Zakiah,
I’m the Savings & Lending officer at FBA. When the tsunami struck I was in Medan, working as an elementary school teacher, but moved to FBA in early 2005. FBA is a local organisation with lots of international connections through our supporters and volunteers. This has enabled us to work to international standards in a local context.
Since joining FBA I have learned to operate computers, practice the English language and view life with optimism. My dream is to master English so that I can continue my studies overseas, and one day manage my own business in Banda Aceh.

the man they call ‘the Professor’ at the FBA office. I have no idea what I’m good at, or why they call me that, but if you ask my FBA colleagues they’ll tell you that I have in-depth knowledge about many things. Hmm, I' not so sure about that.
At FBA I’m the micro finance program manager. It is a job that I love because it allows me to practice our credo of ‘rebuilding from within’. I also enjoy my job at FBA because it gives me the opportunity to contribute good things to my community. I’m a family man, quite close to my mother and sisters, who live in Pidie, and I like nothing more than to visit and spend time with them, whenever I can.

My dream is to be an independent person and become a successful manager, and I hope to achieve this while I’m with FBA. With FBA I also get to practice what I believe life is about—helping other people.

I’m Rafiq, the Monitoring & Assistance worker at FBA. I’ve been with FBA from the start. I remember vividly fleeing the family home in Lueng Bata as the tsunami hit, and then rushing in the devastation to look for family and friends. I also remember vividly the beginning of FBA in a small 3x 4 rented shop.
Even from then you could see the extraordinary strength of FBA stretching the mind to find ways to build back a better Aceh. We were lucky to be under the leadership of Bang Azwar, who had international experience, contacts and commitment. My strength is in marketing and negotiation and am happy to be able to contribute those to FBA.

I’m Samsul, FBA’s Partnerships specialist. I like my job because it allows me to practice what I’m good at. That is, create and complete projects, from dream to reality. Among the things I do at FBA I look for opportunities to develop new projects; maintain our Facebook presence; develop opportunities for scholarships, and importantly, maintain good relationship with our friends, partners and supporters.
I want to be with FBA for a long time. FBA is an organisation I enjoy being with and one that can do a lot for all the people around me. We are a good organisation with a very good chair person.

On the second day the tsunami struck, I arrived at the Dodik intersection, look wood, garbage and other debris strewn all over the place in my mind this is the shortest path to get to the Ulee Lheue my village. Since at the time I am working together people to achieve their dreams and see hope in the future better .
I want to give the best to me personally to every person who has always been close with me and can make a reality of the dream, I want to be a leader in the wider society.

I don’t have firm plans for the mid to long term future, but one thing I’m sure of is that I will be an AC Milan fan for a long time, long enough to see them being more successful than the team I dislike most—Manchester United.

The attitudes, kinship and mutual respect among the people in FBA are great. We support each other, from the leadership, right through to the lowest position in the organisation.
I would like to add to my knowledge about the work we do, how we can continue to help people and share our experiences so that we can learn from each other.
