                                                          Picture
From an initial study that considered the added benefits of a group approach to micro finance to work alongside the existing individual method, FBA started to set up micro finance groups as an added strategy to empower vulnerable and marginalised communities, especially women, to access livelihood support.

FBA aim is that these groups (KSMs) will become independent saving and lending cooperatives or village banks that will be able to provide greater financial access to people who fall outside the criteria set by conventional financial institutions.

Since 2008 almost 90 KSMs have been formed in twelve Aceh Districts. The KSMs focus on marginalised groups, low income household and people affected by the protracted conflict that afflicted Aceh for almost 30 years.

Each KSM is regulated by their own organisational structure and operational procedures as applicable to the specific circumstances.
